Great Yarmouth is a seaside town in Norfolk, England straddling the mouth of the River Yare, some 20 miles east of Norwich. A town of 38,700, it has been a seaside resort since 1760, providing also a gateway from the Norfolk Broads to the North Sea. It’s longstanding fishing industry, depending mainly on herring, suffered steep decline after the mid 20th century and has now all but disappeared. The North Sea oil discovered in the 1960’s led to a brisk oil rig supply industry that now services offshore natural gas rigs. Through the 20th century Yarmouth was a booming resort with a promenade, fortune tellers, pubs, trams, donkey rides, and of course a plethora of fish & chip shops.

Great Yarmouth boardwalk is like Cooney Island meets Atlantic City! Odd place with strange looking people.

While the landslide is bizarre, the seaside is quite beautiful. Lots of pasty Brits getting grilled to lobster colour today!
