The sun made an appearance today and it was a beautiful day for a bus trip & a walk to the Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain to taste some of the Scottish nectar. The Glenmorangie distillery produces single malt scotch whiskey, and was founded in 1843 by William Matheson. Sadly, William passed only 25 years after its founding and his widow took over the business in 1868. She grew the business into one of the largest scotch whiskey producers in Scotland, exporting the first scotch whiskey to China, India and the USA before the turn of the 20th century. Today the distillery produces 6 million gallons of product annually and operates 24 x 7! Glenmorangie is known as an excellent employer in the Scottish Highlands and has employed generations of Fathers and Sons in the business. It is only on its 8th master distiller in its 176 years of operation! We shared the day with Ian Hanoomansingh of CBC fame and his wife, Nancy.

The copper pots are where the magic happens. The mash is heated up with water and the condensate in the tall stack is the ā€œgood stuff’ with alcohol content of 23% in the first condensate and 40% in the second condensate. Add an ice cube and stir!šŸ‘Œ
