Majorca is actually the British term for this island that attracts hundreds of thousands of holidaymakers every year. However, the double L in Spanish is similar to the sound of the letter “Y” in English, so it’s pronounced “Ma-your-ka” so pretty much how we say Majorca today. But one thing is for certain, the correct term or spelling, which is used by travel giants like Lonely Planet, is Mallorca.

So Debb & I arrived to a beautiful, sunny summer 33 degree day in Mallorca which felt so good after almost 3 weeks in cold and wet Scandinavia. Our car rental got messed up so Sixt apologized by upgrading us to a BMW convertible; perfect for exploring this Mediterranean climate. Now we’re ready to go! And, the best thing is our home for the next week, Castillo Hotel Son Vida, up in the hills above Palma is the perfect location from which to make daily sorties.
